Cellulite

A Woman's Nemesis

Cellulite has become one of the most hated female conditions in recent years especially among those who are generally slim; predominantly accumulating in areas below the waist. This is not a condition only for those who carry excess weight; the cottage cheese appearance so familiar with this condition can affect slim women as well.

The fats just below the skin surface push against the tissue which results in the skin surface having that dimpled look common of cellulite. It may still be some time before medical science arrives at a definitive reason for why some people are more prone to this than others but it may have something to do with how toxins are held in the cells of some people.

One thing is for certain though and that is this problem increases with age which is partly due to the reduction of collagen and elastin in the system which is why we tend to have more lines as we get older. It is normally classified as a problem caused by hormones and is why me rarely suffer with the condition as fat in their bodies is consistent throughout.

Even women who do not appear to have cellulite may have it and sometimes it is visible when the skin is compressed as in the case of squatting or when it is pinched between the thumb and forefinger; however as most women suffer with it at some stage it seems to be a perfectly normal condition. Many factors can influence the buildup; ranging from the sex of a person to their age, genetic make-up, skin type and skin thickness, all have a part to play in its formation.

Some treatments involve liposuction (to remove fats) and mesotherapy (injection of drugs into the affected areas). Creams are also designed to help the condition.

Changes in lifestyle, however, are your best bet. So follow a healthy diet, get regular physical exercise and you'll discover there will be an overall reduction in your weight.

Drinking plenty of fresh water every day will gradually remove unwanted toxins that can cause the formation of cellulite in the tissue.
